Volunteering in heritage industries

Editor News

An amendment to the National Citizen Service Bill has been tabled to address concerns over youth volunteering in heritage industries.

As reported in Heritage Update 337 and Heritage Update 336, Lord Faulkner of Worcester stated that the Employment of Women, Young Persons, and Children Act 1920 prevented young people volunteering in ‘industries’ such as heritage railways or for the canals and waterways trust.

The amendment seems to exempt the application of the 1920 Act to volunteering under the NCS scheme.

A date for the Commons Report Stage has yet to be set.
