A Commons Library briefing paper  has been published which considers the issue of memorial (headstone) safety and action to address the risk of accidents caused by unstable memorials in cemeteries.

The House of Lords Grand Committee recently debated a motion asking the Government  ‘whether they will publish guidance to encourage the protection of existing historical statues and memorials and promote the establishment of new memorials that reflect the broader history of the United Kingdom’. The Government’s response highlighted Historic England’s existing work in this area.
