Ecclesiastical’s Heritage Heroes celebrate its 10th Anniversary

Whether fundraising for their local churches or restoring a 19th century water mill houses, volunteers are crucial for the protection of England’s heritage. Conservators and fundraisers, trustees and campaigners, visitor guides and customer assistants – the heritage volunteers are more than valued contributors; without their support, the industry would grind to a halt.

For 10 years now, Ecclesiastical’s Heritage Heroes have celebrated the incredible achievements of volunteers in the heritage sector. More than a simple thank you, these awards are a great opportunity to demonstrate how communities can take ownership of the historic environment around them and make a real difference.

Peter Ainsworth, Chairman of the Heritage Alliance said:

We all admire our ancient buildings, our museums and galleries; places and objects of beauty and solace. Often these things only continue to exist for everyone to enjoy because of the dedication and love of volunteers. We should acclaim them too. For ten years Heritage Heroes has been doing just that, so let’s hear a chorus of approval for those whose efforts too often go unsung.

There are two awards’ categories this year:

  1. The Heritage Hero Award: for a significant achievement in the heritage sector completed in the past 18 months by a volunteer or group of volunteers;
  2. Heritage Hero – Outstanding Contribution Award: for an outstanding individual contribution to heritage over a period of years. The achievements or contributions must have made a real difference in bringing heritage to a wider audience, locally or nationally.

Anyone can make a nomination, but only volunteers for Heritage Alliance member organisations listed here (or their member organisations), can be nominated. Full T&Cs can be found on the nomination form.

Please submit the nomination form by email before Friday 4th October to Delphine Jasmin-Belisle, Development and Membership Manager at The Heritage Alliance.
