Full-time

The Georgian Group [Alliance member] is the national charity for the preservation of historic buildings and planned landscapes of c.1700‐1840 in England and Wales. We were established in 1937 and since 1971 have been the statutory advisor on planning issues that affect Georgian heritage.

We are seeking to appoint a full-time caseworker to assess and respond to relevant development proposals in England. The Georgian Group has a statutory right to be notified where total or part demolition of any listed building in England is proposed. The Georgian Group is principally interested in buildings, landscapes and structures dating from 1700-1840. You will report to the Senior Conservation Adviser in all matters.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable knowledge of historic buildings and practical building conservation, as well as familiarity with the listed building control system. The job will require the development of strong contacts with Historic England, local planning officers, church bodies and local heritage organisations and may involve contact with the press or appearance at public inquiries. Attendance at committee meetings in London to present casework will be necessary. Sound judgement and strong written and oral communication skills are a key requirement.
