Leaving a legacy

Leaving a legacy

Legacies and donations are vital to enable us to continue our work on behalf of the independent heritage sector.

If you are thinking about leaving us a gift in your will and you would like to speak to someone, please contact our Chief Executive Lizzie Glithero-West on 020 7233 0800 in complete confidence.

Our registered charity number and information to be included in a will:

Registered Charity number 1094793; The Heritage Alliance, Clutha House, 10 Storeys Gate, London SW1P 3AY

For general information on leaving a legacy and to see how the changes to Inheritance Tax have made it more attractive to support charities through legacy giving, please visit the Legacy10 website

Legacy10 aims to encourage charitable giving in the United Kingdom by taking advantage of the change in inheritance tax rules to increase the number of people leaving money to charitable causes in their will. From April 2014, anyone leaving 10% of their taxable estate to charity will qualify for a reduced rate of inheritance tax. Currently The Heritage Alliance, the National Trust, Vivat Trust, War Memorials Trust, Institute of Historic Building Conservation, Country Houses Foundation, World Monuments Fund, Hereford Cathedral, Heritage Lottery Fund and Council for British Archaeology support the scheme from the heritage sector.

For more information on the financial benefit of leaving a gift in your will, please visit the HMRC website which provides links to further advice from other organisations including Citizens Advice and Age concern.
