Hannah Shimko is Head of Policy and Communications at The Heritage Alliance. Her role covers liaising with the membership to promote advocacy priorities and influence policy, as well as overseeing the delivery of the communications strategy.
Hannah has had a varied career in the sector since finishing her MA in Culture, Policy and Management with experience of programming, fundraising, engagement, advocacy, and commercial heritage projects. Prior to joining The Heritage Alliance, she ran the community engagement and activities programme on the ‘Parks for People’ Heritage Fund project at The Canons House & Grounds as well as producing The Heritage Alliance’s report Inspiring Creativity: Heritage and the Creative Industries. At the same time, she completed her PhD at the University of Birmingham demonstrating the impact of screen representations of the ‘English Country House’ on the production and design of visitor experiences. Prior to this, she spent time working for Savills in their Commercial Heritage Consultancy, running events for the London Parks & Gardens Trust and delivering projects and fundraising for Global Heritage Fund UK, as well as managing heritage properties during commercial film shoots.
