Heritage Debate 2019: Reaching For Net Zero?

October 14, 2019

This year’s Heritage Debate will be centred around the challenge: “Reaching for Net Zero?”. It will focus on the relationship between heritage and the environment and how we can respond to the existing climate change threats. Participants will hopefully leave with a sense of the challenges the sector faces and the motivation to think more creatively about these issues.

Please join us on 21 October for an evening of lively debate followed by drinks and a buffet reception in the Waldorf’s beautiful Palm Court.

The Heritage Debate panel will feature the environmentalist and climate change communicator David Saddington, the environmental adviser for the National Trust, Keith Jones; Historic England’s leading environmental analyst, Dr Meredith Wiggins and the Head of Environmental Research, Dr Hannah Fluck; Capital & Centric’s co-founder Tim Heatley; and Faith Parish, Heritage Director for Ecclesiastical Insurance.

In the run up to the Heritage Debate, we have started a social media campaign named: “Heritage for Climate”, using the hashtags #HeritageforClimate and #ReachingForNetZero, which will showcase the efforts of Heritage Alliance members to support a sustainable and environmentally-friendly future for the historic environment, fight the harmful effects of climate change and decrease our carbon footprint.

We invite your feedback and questions on those big issues and welcome our members to promote and share the upcoming Annual Heritage Debate. If you are interested in doing so, please get in touch on policy@theheritagealliance.org.uk and share on Twitter using #ReachingForNetZero and #heritagedebate.
