The Situation:The back of the church was untidy with no area or facilities for recreation or church interaction.
Vision/goals:To promote an atmosphere of community and fellowship.
What was the funding strategy? The total cost of the project was £10,000, which was internally generated.
What lessons were learnt? Outlook, vision and outreach are always rewarded. Change is always resisted but seems to bear fruit.
Outcomes:The pews were removed, carpets put down, and a kitchen installed. There has been an increase in income which was also funded by a stewardship campaign. The church is open from 9 until 5 and later in the summer.
Social Cohesion:There has been an increase of about 10% in the congregation. There is more fellowship and more attraction to visitors.
Any future plans for the building? To make substantial improvements to the porch area. To set up the Welshpool open networks scheme. We are part of the Small Churches Nationwide Organisation.
