On 8 Feb 2011 our Chairman Loyd Grossman presented the 2010 Sandford Awards for Heritage Education, at the Houses of Parliament.
37 heritage sites across the UK were awarded a prestigious Sandford Award 2010, which recognises heritage sites that have achieved excellence in education through their work with schools. The Sandfords are jointly managed by Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln and the Heritage Education Trust. This year’s winners include Burghley House, Harvington Hall, the Stockport Air Raid Shelters, Kent Life and the Danelaw Centre for Living History.
Loyd, who has visited an impressive 30 out of the 37 winning sites, commented: “Increased access to, and understanding of, our heritage is essential if all sections of society are to have the opportunity to enjoy this rich and diverse national resource. The Heritage Alliance and its members work hard to promote the central role of the heritage sector in education, and the broad spectrum of excellent projects showcased by the Sandford Award winners really highlight just how active, and successful, the sector is in championing learning. I’m delighted to be presenting the recipients of this year’s Sandfords with their well-deserved Awards.”
The awards ceremony and celebration took place at the Houses of Parliament, which was also one of the winners of a 2010 Sandford Award, and was closed by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP.
