PM thanks The Alliance for its “crucial” advocacy role

In a letter to our Chairman Loyd Grossman dated 12 August, the Prime Minister thanked The Heritage Alliance and its members for “the crucial role they play in advocacy for our country’s heritage, and in co-ordinating a voice for the voluntary sector.”

Replying to a letter our Chairman sent welcoming the PM to office, introducing the work of The Alliance and pressing the importance of maintaining the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme, Mr Cameron said of the scheme: “I appreciate that the scheme is well-liked and that it has played a significant role in supporting repairs to places of worship.”

The PM went on to say: “I do appreciate that, given the long term nature of such repair projects, it would be preferable to provide certainty over the scheme’s future at the earliest opportunity. I can assure you that we will be discussing the scheme as part of our wider consideration of support for the historic environment and of our priorities for spending the funding that is available. We will ensure that any decisions that are made will be published as soon as possible.”
